NDTC’s Summer Projects: Faster, More Reliable Fiber

A note from NDTC General Manager/CEO, TeeJay Kurtz.

Greetings! As we welcome another summer season, our nation is preparing to celebrate a historic milestone – America’s 250th birthday on July 4th. For two and a half centuries, Americans have built communities, businesses, and infrastructure that connect people and create opportunities. At NDTC, we are proud to play a small part in that tradition by continuing to invest in the communications networks that serve our rural communities and help keep our customers connected.

Summer construction season is now in full swing, and we have several important projects underway across our service area. This year, NDTC is upgrading fiber optic routes between Balta and Rugby, from the intersection of Highways 3 and 19 to Esmond, and from Esmond to Maddock. These projects will strengthen the reliability and capacity of our network, while helping position us to meet our customers’ broadband needs well into the future.

Most of this work will take place within the private right-of-way, and we appreciate the cooperation of the landowners we have worked with throughout the planning process. North Plains Utility Contracting is performing the fiber installation work, and Finley Engineering is overseeing the projects.

In addition to construction activities, Finley Engineering continues to assist NDTC with our ongoing GIS (Geographic Information System) project. Crews are currently collecting GPS data in the Fessenden, Esmond, Maddock, and Rugby areas. This information will help us create more accurate digital maps of our network, improving our ability to maintain facilities, respond to service issues, and plan future network upgrades.

You may also hear from us if you subscribe to our NDTC television service. We are currently contacting customers who have our older Amino set-top boxes and scheduling upgrades to newer equipment. These upgrades will help ensure customers continue to enjoy the best possible television experience, with improved performance and compatibility with our evolving Video and Streaming platform.

Finally, as summer projects and outdoor activities continue, we encourage everyone to remember one important safety step before starting any excavation project. Whether you are installing a fence, planting trees, or tackling a landscaping project, please call 811 before you dig. A quick call can help prevent damage to underground utilities and keep everyone safe.

Thank you for choosing NDTC. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and your family, and wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and memorable summer.
