NDTC

A Big Thank You to Norman Schommer

Congratulations to Norman Schommer of Munich, ND! Norman is retiring after over 30 years as an intermittent member of the NDTC Board of Directors. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Norman for his unwavering dedication and leadership over the years.

Norman and his wife Shirley grew up in the Munich area and have been married for 67 years. Norman and Shirley have two children, daughter Diane and son Don. Diane and her family live on the east coast and Don has taken over the family farm. They have four grandsons and ten great-grandchildren. Norman and Shirley have farmed the land their entire lives; Norman was still driving the tractor at 88 years old. Norman cherishes spending time with his family and friends. Three things that we at NDTC will always remember about Norman are his warm smile, his kind nature, and his ability to connect with each person that he crosses paths with. We are lucky to have him as part of our NDTC family.

The NDTC Board of Directors is composed of ten members who convene monthly to make crucial decisions and stay informed of NDTC’s progress as a telecommunications company in central North Dakota. Norman joined the NDTC board in 1993, when NDTC was established by a consortium known as The Phone Company (TPC). TPC was formed by United Communications (Langdon, ND); Dakota Central (Carrington, ND); and Polar Communications (Park River, ND), and together they purchased 15 exchanges in the Devils Lake area from GTE, forming what is now North Dakota Telephone Company (NDTC).

Norman has witnessed the growth of NDTC, from rotary phone service to the advancements and additions of internet and TV. Remarkably, at 92 years young, Norman has mastered attending Zoom calls. Norman, we extend our sincerest thanks and wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement!
